Migrating to a foreign land can be scary and exhilarating. You’re going to leave your friends and family and live in place with an alien culture and people you don’t know. Here at VisaOne, we take care the migration process for you for smooth transition.

As for your flight, here are five things you should do before boarding the plane to make your travel smooth, convenient, and less of a hassle.

Dress Appropriately

Research for your destination country when dressing up. You don’t’ want to arrive in Australia during a minus 20 weather on your loose shirt and sandals. And even if it’s the summer months, the airplane can be chilly. Wearing loose layers and a light jacket would be the best solution here, and be sure you have a change of clothes on your carry-on bag. That ensemble will not work on tropical countries.

Stay away from jewelries, hats, and other accessories. They make passing through airport security quite slow and cumbersome.

And lastly, consider comfort on your trip. A flight from Singapore to Australia, for instance, lasts for eight hours. Imagine sitting in the cabin for that long. Make sure you are dressed accordingly.

Be Hydrated

The pressurized cabin’s lack of humidity can dry up your mucous membranes, making it harder for your body to expel out germs. Also, the air conditioning can drain out your skin and water levels. Protect yourself from getting ill by making sure you drink before and during the flight.

Carry an empty water container with you and fill it up right after passing through security. While on the plane, be sure you ask the attendant to refill your bottle for you. There will be trips to the loo, but at least you arrive to your destination healthy and in good condition.

And while we’re on the topic…

Use The Loo With Caution

Before you board the plane, be sure you use the toilet. This will minimize your rest room trips in the plane. But be careful. Hundreds of thousands of people use the airport toilets each day, each one of them carries and transfers germs in the process. Be sure you don’t become the end user.

Before flushing, make sure you close the lid to prevent the bacteria from flying out. Use a paper towel when doing so, and wash your hands thoroughly after.

Stay Away From Alcohol

The bar can be a very tempting place to stay and kill time can during a layover, especially when you’re with a group of friends. Hit that spot and you will increase your chances of arriving sick and indisposed on your destination.

Alcohol is excessively dehydrating. It will make you urinate more and release moisture from your body. Combine that with the very low humidity in the cabin and you will increase your susceptibility to infections and illnesses.

If you really like the place and wants to stay for a while, go for seltzer water or soda instead. If soothing your nerves and relaxing yourself is your concern, drinking tea is a better option.

Go Nuts

We mean the edible variety. Bring filling snack with you aboard such as nuts, trail mixes, crackers, or chocolates. Because no matter how short your flight is, you will be hungry.

Be sure you avoid cheese, smoked fish, or any other smelly foods to avoid inconvenience for the other passengers. Fresh fruits and vegetables are also not allowed inside the plane.

And while we’re in the topic of food, make sure you eat a healthy meal before boarding. Being on a high altitude numbs your taste buds and may impede you from enjoying airplane food. Be sure to stock up.
